DRIVER TRAINING SYLLABUSLadder 24 (TILLERMAN)Note: Members will meet the completion standards of each block before proceeding to the next phase.BLOCK 1 - PARKING LOTSSerpentine Course Forward/Back 75’ distance between conesOffset Alleys Forward/Back 10’ wide alleys, distance between alleys to bethe length of apparatus (56.6’)Loading Dock Backing only 10’ wide loading dockCompletion Standard: Driver Trainee will be able to Tiller the vehicle 3 times in the direction indicated through each of the above courses, without any instruction or direction, without hitting any cones.BLOCK 2 - STREETS (FIRST DUE)As a minimum, the trainee will spend at least 3 – 1 hour ,or 30 miles, sessions driving in Station 24’s first due area on the streetsEach session is to include the following:Forward and Back through the bus loop at the Gladwyne Elementary SchoolBacking into the loading dock area at Super FreshPulling out of and backing into the firehouseCul-De-Sac training (Monk Road)Correctly positioning the apparatus and aerial ladder at selected sites (TBD)A. Gladwyne Montessori School (Through the parking curbs)B. TBDC. TBDCompletion Standard: Tiller trainee shall be able to correctly position apparatus on the first attempt for aerial ladder operations as directed by the OIC without needing to reposition the vehicle. The Trainee shall be able to drive forward and back through the predetermined locations without running over curbs, without direction, and without needing to “jockey” the vehicle. The Trainee shall be able to back into quarters from both directions and without excessive “jockeying” of the vehicle.BLOCK 3 - STREETS (ASSIST DISTRICT)The Trainee will spend at least 4 – 1 hour sessions, or 40 miles, driving in various areas in and outof the first due. This training should include all of Station 24 assist districts in and out of traffic (with special attention to Belmont Hills), Montgomery and Lancaster Avenues, Trainees should use majorroutes that are our primary response routes to these areas.Completion Standard: The Trainee shall safely tiller a minimum of 5 hours, or 50 miles, of street time, not including interstates, in this block.BLOCK 4 - HIGHWAYS
Trainee will spend at least 1 hour tillering session, or 10 miles, driving on the interstates within our township (I-76 / I-476). Emphasis should be placed on becoming familiar with the various interchanges and proper entry and exiting from the highway. Any time spent driving on the interstates does not count for the previous block.Completion Standard: The trainee shall safely tiller a minimum of 1 hour, or 10 miles, of interstate driving.
